Churner - Static Chaos [Self release - 2021]

Static Chaos is a half-an-hour shot of tightly hacking and lightly feedback whistling  HNW from Tennessee based Churner. It must be a good few years since I’ve heard/ reviewed anything from this harsh noise/ walled noise project- and I must say this is a nicely taut and tense example of walling.

This digital self-release appeared at the tail end of last year, though apparently, the track dates back from a year early. The single track here rolls in at spot on the half-an-hour mark, and it’s decidedly battering & baying in its attack. The cover artwork is a black & white picture of a waterlogged graveyard. And if you’d like to check out/ download the release head here

The single track here is entitled “Static Chaos 7#” and is centred around a rapid and largely unstoppable bass hack, mid raged judder, skittering static grain, and forking-to-whistling high pitched feedback- which at points finds the ‘wall’ briefly grinding to a  holt. It’s certainly a tense and nervily taunt example of the HNW form, with the blend of the layers being realized in a nice clean and clear-cutting manner. When we drop into the sustained high-pitched tones- these give an effectively ear searing bite.

If you like urgent and tense HNW with some more seared and ear grating touches, then Static Chaos will appeal. And I’ll certainly be checking out some more of Churner’s recent work, after rediscovery the project after not really hearing anything from them in about ten or so years.
